Heathrow Airport: Toddlers&Travel
The life of a parent with a toddler(s) is quite intense…. You can go from feeling ‘completely in love’ to wanting to ‘break something’ in a matter of seconds…. Oh gosh! Those little rascals are really something! ‘LOL’. I haven’t written in quite sometime… It’s been extremely busy without a ‘nanny’ (hug your child’s nanny today, we can never pay them enough for all they do).
So, in my typical ‘oversabi’ behaviour, i carried both my kids (1+ and 3+) on a brief trip. So many ‘more experienced mums’ warned me, but I couldn’t imagine being away from my kids for so many weeks…. I ignored everyone and went along with my two soldiers. I had travelled with both of them in the past, when my younger son was a few months old, so I figured it would be a similar experience. Boy! WAS I WRONG!
I was lucky enough to have my husband with me on the first leg of the trip… Although it was a little stressful, it didnt seem so bad. Well, I didnt have that luxury when the day came to proceed to our final destination… ‘Madam Super Woman, dont call crying oh!’ My hubby teased… I was like ‘yimu!’ and carried my two soldiers like a ‘BOSS’… Lol.
I spent a few hours at Heathrow Airport… The flight was delayed a bit and I was there a bit too early…. That was the beginning of ‘IT’! My youngest would take off in random directions and almost scream his lungs out when I try to restrict him… ‘Ah! Zayden, you that is so stress free, wetin happen?’… He was not trying to ‘siddon look’, he wanted to explore all the bright colours and random noises… ‘Kai!’. I would try to hold unto his elder brother (who on the other hand decided to chat up all the cute female toddlers he could sight)····
I was like a nut case, chasing after these two little men… I thought about ‘Benadryl’ so many times to knock them out, but ‘as I no get mind’, I struggled through.
In my dilemma, running from one corner of the airport to another… I found the ‘family lounge’. (Every parent going through Heathrow would completely appreciate this)· It’s a baby friendly lounge with very safe play areas… This was certainly the best part of my wait at the airport. How many countries/governments actually put ‘parents with toddlers’ into consideration when planning their airport setup? Nigeria has the most hazardous airports… Almost every corner is somewhat dangerous for toddlers. I believe creating safe havens for parents travelling with young kids can go a long way in creating an even better travel experience.
I absolutely fell in love with Heathrow Airport when I found this little treasure. If you’re not already aware, you can easily miss it. Mums with kids are not interested in fancy lounges when these hyperactive little humans will not ‘allow you drink water’… An area where kids can be allowed to be kids while parents get some timeout is really something all countries should look into for their international airports.
I was super impressed…. My kids played till they were completely exhausted, and I was able to purchase some snacks/drinks in the lounge. When we were ready to head to our departure gate, the lady at the lounge put some smiley stickers on their faces (mums know how important smiley stickers are lol!)… It was truly a great/restful experience for me and super fun for them… They were knocked out shortly after I strapped them in. Thanks to the phenomenal ‘Family Lounge’ at Heathrow Airport, my kids were not drugged by ‘mummy’.
I have so much to write about… So many new tips and discoveries… I CANT WAIT TO SHARE…. Oh! I also have a new love for crotchet braids… Please subscribe at the bottom of the home page to stay informed about new posts.
I certainly dont know it all, but I love to share the little I do and hope to learn a few things as well from you. Please send feedback about your travel experience with your toddler, I always love to hear from you.
Like I always say, don’t stay trapped in the norm… Unleash your alter ego!
