My health regime: 6kg gone!
For a long time, like so many women, I have struggled with my weight… you see, I’ve never been the slim girl but I have certainly had a steady increase in weight through the years. As a Life & Wellness coach, I have helped see people through various goals, including their weight goals. I have motivated and stuck it out with my clients…. I have taught them the power of taking full control of their lives, and building a can-do attitude. I love to live by example, so, I apply all I teach to various areas of my life. I have however never accepted defeat in the weight loss department…. although it seemed like I had lost the drive to keep up.
I remember my first year in college, I was fresh from Nigeria, and had stuffed myself with burger king (double whopper with bacon and cheese) and pizza hut(chicken&pineapple toppings YUM!)… sadly, thinking of these horribly unhealthy meals doesn’t fill me with disgust… I still love oily, fried, fatty foods! By the end of my first year in college I was up to 80kg from my arrival weight of 75kg. I am quite tall for a lady, so that kind of helped cover up the reality that I was overweight…. sad thing is…. I still am. I still get the ‘you’re very okay for your height’… but I know the truth… I know what the scale says… I know how much I have gained over time and how I’ve struggled over the years to lose it.
I have learned severally that all I have to do is change my lifestyle… The weight will come off steadily but surely. I usually took the easy way out (Cambridge diet, Greenworld, name it!)…. which works well, but never permanently. I also used my kids as an excuse, ‘I’m a new mum, still breastfeeding’ I would say, but that started getting old and I came to realise that if I don’t take full control of my health, I will balloon to a very unhealthy size, and will not be physically able to do all I would love to do with my family….
2 weeks ago, I weighed in at 93kg, I checked my weight that morning and gasped! I was once 122kg, I struggled over the years, but by the time I had my second son, I had managed to maintain an 85kg weight (which was 10kg from my goal weight)…. I was however comfortable and planned on changing my lifestyle to gradually achieve my goal weight of 75kg….instead, I gained 8kg! This was just a very demoralizing new development and I decided…. No More!….. maybe, just maybe I can stick to this ‘healthy lifestyle’ and create a much healthier regime for my home, my children and most importantly my self.
Please follow me on this weight loss journey, I hope to inspire as many as I can to do the same…. Hopefully, we can achieve our weight goals together and begin a truly healthy lifestyle.
- No food past 7pm (I still drink water till bedtime)
- 30 minutes mild workout in the morning (downloaded some @adaari workout videos)
- 20minutes mild workout at night (@adaari fun workout videos). I may or may not increase my workout intensity, for now this is all I do (I cannot ‘kiiii’ myself ‘lol’)
- Moringa green tea ( you can use any green tea); one cup in the morning, and one cup at night.
- Smaller portions (I still have breakfast, lunch and dinner… I just eat one-third of my regular portion size)
- Substitute one meal with a good amount of fruits/vegetables (I picked dinner to substitute. My lunch is usually quite yummy and I love breakfast a little too much) ps: fruits for dinner will make you hungry in the morning.
- No alchohol (I had a glass of pineapple/malibu cocktail last weekend though)
