Weightloss Update: 7kg Gone!!

On Friday, December 4th. I weighed in at 86kg. That meant I was 11kg from my goal weight. I was pumped! The next day was our girls night out…. hung out with a few ladies (we ditched the husbands and kids)… It was super fun! We encouraged each other and just spoke on ways to grow in various aspects of life as working mums/wives. I was also proud of myself for actually keeping to the 7pm rule (no food intake after 7 pm. Water is allowed though)…. However, I had a big glass of strawberry Margarita…. One of my rules is  ‘no alcohol’…. However, that Margarita was ‘soooo’ good! (Spice Route at the PH mall, I was really impressed by their cocktails. I had it served frozen, so so good!)…. I ate healthy though…. We ordered some chicken and shrimps… We all ate healthy…. However that was just day one.

My husband’s God son had his birthday the next Sunday…. again I stuck to my 7pm rule, but I drank a can of malt and had some of the very yummy birthday cake…. I felt guilty, but I figured I’ll burn it off with exercise. I did workout that night, however, the rest of the week took another turn. It turned out to be one of the most busy weeks ever!… I had so many events and meetings and there was very little control of the type of food I consumed… So regardless of the fact that I ate little portions and stuck to the 7pm rule…. the wrong choice of foods (fried food, dessert, soda, junk food, etc) certainly had a bad effect overall.

Last week was certainly not my best week but I was determined to catch up this week. I returned to my healthy lifestyle…. right food choices, right portions, right eating schedule and exercise…. Thank goodness I even lost 1kg… I was scared I would gain.

After my last post…. I got quite a lot of feedback… emails and comments…. and I learnt a few new things…. first, there is absolutely no excuse to sway from your healthy lifestyle regime, so I have no excuse for letting ‘real life’ affect my goal. It is also important to note that no setback is the end of the road, pick yourself up, and continue to push forward!

Another tip learnt is breaking your weight loss journey into days or weeks. I break mine into 2weeks…. Every two weeks, I check my progress, get pumped all over again…. and start anew. It certainly helps…. you should incorporate that strategy too.

My regime has been tweaked a bit:

  • I put some lemon in my green tea (someone advised that just Lipton tea can do the trick, so if you have quicker access to Lipton, don’t hesitate to use it!)
  • I try to drink warm lemon water at least once a day (3 times a day is even more ideal). I include a pinch of ginger every now and then, depending on my mood.
  • I have completely cut off soda/mineral/fizzy drinks. They do absolutely nothing for your body quite frankly.
  • I will allow a glass of alcohol a week…. maybe two (lol).
  • I have continued with ‘no food after 7pm’
  • I still excercise twice a day (20mins in the morning and 30mins at night)… No, I have not increased in intensity yet ‘lol’.
  • I substitute one meal with fruits/vegetables
  • Portion control (I can’t stress this enough, it’s really the key factor)
  • Water…. plenty of it!

Notice that, even in my bad week, the ability to apply portion control and avoid late meals kept me afloat. It is also paramount to note that exercise speeds up the weight loss process, no matter how mild…. without exercise (and without artificial help, like diet drugs), you will still loose weight overtime, gradually (as long as you stick to a healthy lifestyle)…. Exercise however increases the calories burnt daily, translating into swifter weight loss.

I’m learning what works for my body everyday, be sensitive to what works for you and tweak your healthy lifestyle regime accordingly.

I’m proud to say…. I’m down 7kg!!! 10kg away from my goal weight. It seems like an extremely hard journey, 10kg is no joke…. but it can be done… one day at a time.

Well..I can say this blog has helped me a lot.i didn’t get to bother about my weight a few months ago..I have been trying my best..but these past few days I have been in an environment where I get to indulge a lot on a daily basis..I try the not eating after 7pm thingy.its not easy.. I even deceive myself and say “I won’t eat food the whole of the day just fruits but when I get to the kitchen I eat a lot of meat and drink sprite or malt and then tell myself ‘shey it’s just protein.i won’t eat in the night..even though I eventually don’t eat at night..I feel really guilty but then at least from 90kg m now 86kg.i hope that when I am out of here I will really discipline myself..Christmas is coming.i don’t want to look fat so it’s actually up to me …

Hmmm…weightloss. the thing tire me. Okay, I am not on the big side but I feel a lot better at a certain weight. I had a wedding in Miami 2 months ago and I had never been more in love with my body then (I flet light and clean bother body snd mind). I went 90% vegan. Just like that overnight. I say 90% because I still had salmon at night..loool. I am a shame. But my regime was wake up in the morning and drink the biggest bottle of water(27oz) then prepare for work but the night before I would generally make my breakfast which consisted of 2 options. 1. Chia seed pudding or Ezekiel bread with peanut butter. Both options had a good portion of carbs, protein and fat. They also kept me full. Then in between I had green tea and loads of water all the time but with Chia seed, it basically forms a gel like substance in your tummy and swells up to more than 21 times it’s size. Before lunch time I would poop, you know me I have always had an issue with pooping but Chia seed and Ezekiel bread (which is a grain bread) turned my pooping game around. I usually would go to the gym during my lunch break. I would not always work out intensely during lunch but it was my escape because we always have really bad food at the office so if I stayed chances are I would indulge in bad food. So I would go to the gym at lunch and get in a light work out. My lunch consisted of quinoa, kale or spinach with avocado and Tempeh, I ate at my desk when I got back while working. 2/3 hours later I would have fruit.I have been going to the farmers market every weekend to get my veggies and fruits so my fruit game stepped up because I started trying everything. My new favorite are jackfruit and fuyu. I wish I were in Nigeria to try more fruits. I love fruits with high fiber, because before the end of work I would have pooped again. Which is 2 times in the day compared to my once in 2weeks. Right after work I would either go straight to my soccer game or yoga or pilates, or the gym. Because if I happen to go home right after work, I am not step out. For dinner I have steamed vegetable and fish. My tummy disappeared. I flet amazong, my skin was glowing, my acNE even the ones on my back that bother ed me, disappeared. At that point my measurement was 35-27-45. It took me less than 2 months to achieve it. But ask me what happens starting mid novemeber. I went on lunch with my Co workers to buffalo wild wings, nne have you ever seen me turn down wings before. I honestly had good intentions going there. I ordered a salad and even brought my own vegan dressing with me. But me and wings in a room, we just have to mingle. I had 20 pieces that day. The Asian zing flavor..oh LA la. And that’s how I started making excuses, bad choices and I am back to being 9lbs heavier. I can gain weight at the speed of light. I am slowly trying to get better again. I think I started my vegan journey too fast. So for me, eating organic, drinking water and more vegetables was key. Sorry for my long story

Please ignore all my spelling errors. But I also wanted to add that there is a star bucks downstairs in my building and after 6pm pastries are half price. I had to start using the back door to enter my apartment. I have no food selfcontrol. Because I can work out for africa..but saying no to yummy food.
