Weightloss Update: 7kg Gone!!
On Friday, December 4th. I weighed in at 86kg. That meant I was 11kg from my goal weight. I was pumped! The next day was our girls night out…. hung out with a few ladies (we ditched the husbands and kids)… It was super fun! We encouraged each other and just spoke on ways to grow in various aspects of life as working mums/wives. I was also proud of myself for actually keeping to the 7pm rule (no food intake after 7 pm. Water is allowed though)…. However, I had a big glass of strawberry Margarita…. One of my rules is ‘no alcohol’…. However, that Margarita was ‘soooo’ good! (Spice Route at the PH mall, I was really impressed by their cocktails. I had it served frozen, so so good!)…. I ate healthy though…. We ordered some chicken and shrimps… We all ate healthy…. However that was just day one.
My husband’s God son had his birthday the next Sunday…. again I stuck to my 7pm rule, but I drank a can of malt and had some of the very yummy birthday cake…. I felt guilty, but I figured I’ll burn it off with exercise. I did workout that night, however, the rest of the week took another turn. It turned out to be one of the most busy weeks ever!… I had so many events and meetings and there was very little control of the type of food I consumed… So regardless of the fact that I ate little portions and stuck to the 7pm rule…. the wrong choice of foods (fried food, dessert, soda, junk food, etc) certainly had a bad effect overall.
Last week was certainly not my best week but I was determined to catch up this week. I returned to my healthy lifestyle…. right food choices, right portions, right eating schedule and exercise…. Thank goodness I even lost 1kg… I was scared I would gain.
After my last post…. I got quite a lot of feedback… emails and comments…. and I learnt a few new things…. first, there is absolutely no excuse to sway from your healthy lifestyle regime, so I have no excuse for letting ‘real life’ affect my goal. It is also important to note that no setback is the end of the road, pick yourself up, and continue to push forward!
Another tip learnt is breaking your weight loss journey into days or weeks. I break mine into 2weeks…. Every two weeks, I check my progress, get pumped all over again…. and start anew. It certainly helps…. you should incorporate that strategy too.
My regime has been tweaked a bit:
- I put some lemon in my green tea (someone advised that just Lipton tea can do the trick, so if you have quicker access to Lipton, don’t hesitate to use it!)
- I try to drink warm lemon water at least once a day (3 times a day is even more ideal). I include a pinch of ginger every now and then, depending on my mood.
- I have completely cut off soda/mineral/fizzy drinks. They do absolutely nothing for your body quite frankly.
- I will allow a glass of alcohol a week…. maybe two (lol).
- I have continued with ‘no food after 7pm’
- I still excercise twice a day (20mins in the morning and 30mins at night)… No, I have not increased in intensity yet ‘lol’.
- I substitute one meal with fruits/vegetables
- Portion control (I can’t stress this enough, it’s really the key factor)
- Water…. plenty of it!
Notice that, even in my bad week, the ability to apply portion control and avoid late meals kept me afloat. It is also paramount to note that exercise speeds up the weight loss process, no matter how mild…. without exercise (and without artificial help, like diet drugs), you will still loose weight overtime, gradually (as long as you stick to a healthy lifestyle)…. Exercise however increases the calories burnt daily, translating into swifter weight loss.
I’m learning what works for my body everyday, be sensitive to what works for you and tweak your healthy lifestyle regime accordingly.
I’m proud to say…. I’m down 7kg!!! 10kg away from my goal weight. It seems like an extremely hard journey, 10kg is no joke…. but it can be done… one day at a time.
Please share your secret with us…. I’ve learnt a lot from you these past few weeks… anything to make this transition easier will be greatly appreciated.
